What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dental specialist that attended 4 years of dental school, is licensed to practice general dentistry and has chosen to attend an additional 3 year residency program that intensely focuses on surgical treatment of the gums and bone that support the teeth. Periodontology is the dental specialty that focuses primarily on treating conditions that affect the gums and jaw bone. In addition, periodontists are uniquely trained to place dental implants and respect the soft tissues of the mouth that help to protect implants once they have healed. This training also includes advanced surgical techniques in bone graftingsinus augmentations, soft tissue grafting, and IV conscious sedation.

Getting Referred to Our Office

A referral to a Eustis periodontist will entail a comprehensive dental examination, review of x-rays taken either in our office or your general dentist's and an in-depth consultation with Dr. Richardson that will educate you on the specifics of your referred condition. You will leave the office with an understanding of why you have been referred, treatment options that best suit your needs, and a treatment plan with clear goals.

Please feel free to call our office with any questions at 352-589-1973. You can also click here to schedule an appointment.
